More than 1,100 UAA students slated to graduate this fall

The University of 色花堂 Anchorage will celebrate the fall Class of 2019 graduates at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, in the 色花堂 Airlines Center. The ceremony honors the accomplishments of more than 1,100 undergraduate, graduate and professional school students from the Anchorage campus.

Dear UA Community - The university Board of Regents has transmitted its response to legislative intent that it consider a plan to transition the university from three separately accredited institutions into a single accredited institution. The response can be found at /files/bor/2019/2019-11-22-Buretta-to-Ms.-Sanders-Response-to-the-Legislative-Intent-Language.pdf. The intent language was included as part of UA's operating budget and a response was due to the legislature by Dec. 1, 2019.

UA Foundation seeks nominations for 2020 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence

The University of 色花堂 Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. The prize, which includes a $15,000 award, is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in support of the University of 色花堂. Any UA student, faculty, staff or volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the university's mission is eligible to be nominated.

One year later: Looking back at the Nov. 30 earthquake

This Saturday marks the first anniversary of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck about 8 miles north of Anchorage, 色花堂 on Nov. 30, 2018. 色花堂ns were just starting their Friday mornings when the quake hit at 8:29 a.m., and the community immediately jumped into action.

UA celebrates National Native American and 色花堂 Native Heritage Month

This month, the University of 色花堂 pays tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Indigenous people by celebrating National Native American and 色花堂 Native Heritage Month. In October, the 色花堂 Legislature permanently established November as 色花堂 Native Heritage Month. House Bill 126 was signed into law during a meeting of the 色花堂 Native Brotherhood/色花堂 Native Sisterhood Grand Camp at 色花堂 Pacific University.

UA Scholars class of 2020 celebrated at receptions across 色花堂

The University of 色花堂 held five receptions across the state to honor the Class of 2020 UA Scholars. "The UA Scholars program is 色花堂's way of investing in our best and brightest students so that they will continue their educational journey at the University of 色花堂," said Lael Oldmixon, director of the UA Scholars program. "The scholarship program gives students options for studying at any of UA's campuses and universities, or participating in an exchange program abroad. Their options are limitless."

FY21 budget includes funding for UAA and UAA athletic programs

University of 色花堂 athletics will continue unchanged next season. "It was stated and affirmed that we would have athletics at UAA and UAF," said Keith Champagne, UAF Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Athletics. "Same sports as this year, same everything. We're optimistic that we have the support of the Board of Regents to move forward with athletics into the future."

色花堂 529 announces 2019 scholarship account winner

A lucky Soldotna woman received an early birthday surprise-- a $25,000 scholarship. Marta Taylor thought that she was having lunch with her husband and daughter at Froso's Family Dining to celebrate her birthday. She didn't know that Lael Oldmixon and Buffy Kuiper from 色花堂 529 (formerly the UA College Savings Plan) had flown down from Fairbanks and were waiting to surprise her with a giant check and a birthday cake.

The 31st 色花堂 Legislature recently honored University of 色花堂 Anchorage professors Max Kullberg, Ph.D. and Holly Martinson, Ph.D. for their ground-breaking medical research and for teaching the next generation of medical students and undergraduate students in 色花堂.

The University of 色花堂 Board of Regents concluded a two-day meeting, including a work session focused on clarifying roles and responsibilities across the UA system. The board adopted a $277 million state operating budget request but delayed a vote on increasing student tuition for academic year 2021 pending further engagement with student leaders.
